Resort Communities

Resort Communities are designed to make their residents feel like they’re staying in a vacation resort without having to leave home. Typical amenities and attractions include outdoor and indoor swimming pools, waterpark style features at the pool, clubhouses, playgrounds, fitness centers, tennis courts, golf and beach shuttles (if they’re in proximity). Resort communities are common in popular vacation areas because they offer a popular draw where real estate competition is already stiff by adding another luxurious layer to your vacation experience. They are also common outside busy metropolitan areas where residents deserve a relaxing second home. But don’t worry, resort communities will happily welcome year-round residents too.

Home Styles

Because resort communities are often designated as a vacation/second home community, there is usually an emphasis on multi-family housing including twin homes, condominiums and townhomes. The finishes inside the home match the luxury of the community itself and include top of the line appliances, fixtures and features. Single family homes are usually offered as well to meet the needs of home buyers in search of more living space.

What to ask your Resort Community Builder
  • What are the rules on renting out homes in the community? If you plan to use your resort community home as a rental investment, make sure you know the rental rules ahead of time.
  • What are the HOA fees? A community with lots of amenities can mean a community with higher fees. Make sure you include this in your estimated monthly costs before buying.
  • What is the timeline for building the planned amenities? If you’re buying early on in the development process, all planned amenities may not be built yet. Ensure you know the timeling and have it in writing from the builder and community developer.
